Elena Perekrestova
Matushka Elena Perekrestova teaches Church Slavonic and History of Russian Church Music at SSLM. She holds a B.A. from Harvard University and an M.A. from Norwich University’s highly regarded program in Russian literature. In addition, she studied privately with Johannes Gardner, one of the 20th century’s preeminent authorities on Russian liturgical music. For many years, she led the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Youth Choir at the Joy of All Who Sorrow Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco, as well as leading the Holy Virgin Cathedral’s women’s choir in the 1980s. She has frequently lectured over the years on the topics related to Russian liturgical music at conferences and concerts throughout the United States and Canada.
